Email or a contact form is all you need but I agree you need some means of communication with the outside world on a site.

Right Im getting sick of this

So the other day when I mentioned all the spam contact forms we get, I logged into google captcha admin and turned the security up to max. So now they not only have to click the "I am not a robot" button but they also have to pick out pictures of traffic lights or whatever.

And the result....... today i have had 12 spam contact forms. 6 of them from the same person repeating the same bloody message !!!!!

They musy be paying people to just sit there filling out contact forms and captcha challenges all day long as no bot could do that

Although why you would send the same message to the same person 6 times is beyond me

Hire some guy offshore at $5 an hour to sit spam contact forms is not the best way to run a business, you tick off people with the spam.

If you are using WordPress you can easily encode emails to prevent spam Bots from picking them off the site. Just add this code to your theme function file, create a plugin, or however else you like to add code to your site:

Code: Select all

function wpcodex_hide_email_shortcode( $atts , $content = null ) {
	if ( ! is_email( $content ) ) {
 return;
	}
	$content = antispambot( $content );
	$email_link = sprintf( 'mailto:%s', $content );
	return sprintf( '<a href="%s">%s</a>', esc_url( $email_link, array( 'mailto' ) ), esc_html( $content ) );
}
add_shortcode( 'email', 'wpcodex_hide_email_shortcode' );
Then just add the email:

Code: Select all

joe@blow.com
The email will be linked and when you look at the source code of your page you'll see it's encoded.

It is the way to do business, have contacts listed on your site.

I am sick and tired of sites which have no contact link or email. ICANN requires you to make sure your contact information is verified annually or they can go a head and take the domain off line until it is updated, I fully support this rule. Websites should have a contact email, contact form, some damn means to reach whoever is responsible for the domain.

I wish some major jurisdiction such as the US or EU would pass such legislation, it beats having stupid cookie consent law when you need to get a hold of the darn site owner.

End of rant
You have my vote on this

Not sure what the rules are for 3rd party billers (eg ccbill, epoch etc) but for sites like us with our own merchant account then Mastercard / Visa require us to display not only a contact method but also a full postal address on our index page AND checkout page. We also have to supply a support telephone number on our transaction receipts

This is good why not have the site reachable in case of some billing error.
