Only thing I do not like about long weekends here and I suppose it is the same there, banks are closed so sponsor wires get delayed.

Always makes me chuckle at how useless us Brits are when other countries around the world have long weekends, they always MEAN something. Like Victoria day in Canada, MLK day in USA, Bastille day in France.

Here in the UK we just seem to have bank holidays and NOBODY has the slightest idea why ??? We've got 2 this month and if you asked us what they are for, most of us would just say its an excuse to get pissed LOL

The funny part is bank holidays in England have no meaningful names as you said, yet in other countries such as Canada they have Victoria day after the late queen and yet they were colonies at one time. You would think Victoria day would be celebrated in England for the great achievement during her reign of adding more real estate to the empire, yet those colonized celebrate her name, go figure. I guess not to rub salt in the wound and remind certain parts of the globe that we ruled them at one time and to be more politically correct we call it Spring bank holiday not Victoria day.

The reality of any holiday is as you said, "just say its an excuse to get pissed."

Three day weekends are sweet my friends who do not work for themselves get an extra day off that is nice for them.
