offline marketing - if you know anybody who sells tupperware (or other stuff)

from the internet .....

(off topic - marketing off line)

As you know, I spent weeks with my Mom at the hospital until she passed away.
During one of the many times I would descend in the elevator to the lobby to get a fresh cup of coffee, I would pass a table that different vendors would rent to sell products each day. Different day, different vendor.
Perhaps you see these in your local hospital.
One day, it was a Tupperware lady.
So, seeing a fellow networker, I went over to say hello.
Being a bachelor, who knows little about cooking, I was not that interested in Tupperware, but I love our industry.
So, I asked the lady how the ‘retail’ side of the business was going?
“Not bad, I’m here once a month, I sell enough to break even, but it gets me a few leads per month”
I asked her if she was satisfied with the number of leads she attracted?
Laughing, she said “No way!”
So, I asked her if she wanted to know the super-unknown and unused method I use to turn a table into a lead generating machine – on steroids?
She looked at me suspiciously, after all, she didn’t know me from Adam.
I told her I was in the industry and learned a thing or two about lead generation.
“ok, so tell me what to do…”
“Look”, “here’s what you do to get leads. Offer a set of your kitchen products that appeal most to your ‘best prospect’ – homemakers – on a free draw.”
I explained how easy it is to make a sign offering a retail value of $99 worth of Tupperware, with a nice display of that set, where all someone must do is write their name, email and phone number, on a small piece of pre-printed forms, and place it into a Tupperware container sitting there until the monthly draw.
If anyone askes why they need to put their number and email, you tell them it’s to let them know if they win or not. (Do you see the last two words: ‘Or NOT?)
This way you can draw a winner once a month, call them, give them their winnings, take some pictures, get some testimonials if they are willing – get something that you can post on FB etc. and prospect them.
Of course, if they join or buy more, great, but that’s not the purpose of the draw.
The purpose of the draw is to follow up with all those who didn’t win.
Call them up and say, ‘Hey, sorry you didn’t win the Tupperware set this month, but:
a) You can earn a set; would you like to host a party?
b) I have a /small gift/ for you, where can I drop it off? (and show the business)
c) Who do you know who is looking to upgrade their kitchen?
d) Who do you know, who is a homemaker, but needs a monthly income too?
Now, you can make up your own follow up, depending on your product.
The point here is to find a way to offer something free in a draw to collect leads.
If your product does not work for a draw, just offer something that would attract your type of prospects, e.g. a set of Tony Robbins books.
Find places where there is walk-by traffic and get a booth – or a table.
The reason tradeshows don’t work, is because people try to sell their deal at a booth competing with all the other deals.
Just offer something for free and collect names that you will call after these prospects are at home and have forgotten all your competitors.
When I saw her again, a month later, she had the draw going, and I could see lots of filled-out forms in the draw box. She smiled and winked at me as I waved to her on my way to my Mom.
There is never a shortage of leads, just a shortage of imagination.
By the way, who said “Imagination governs the world”?
Tony Robbins, Napoleon Hill, or Napoleon Bonaparte?
Keep imagining!
Oh, the answer to the question above?
Of course, it was Bonaparte.
Best, David
P.S. What to become the ‘Napoleon’ of Networking? Or are you too frightened? If you are brave enough,

How do you classify Amazon now, an online or offline retailer, they have their fingers in both. So what do you put them as an online business primarily?

if you don't have an amazon store in your neighborhood, then i'd say online

however, for Barnes and Noble, they have stores everywhere (i hope) and also an internet presence

Believe me there is money in selling junk at a swap meet. A guy I know makes over ±$800 a week working 2 days a week selling just that, Tshirts and slacks.
