With the red, you need to change line 3 in the colours.css from color:#ffffff to color:#000000. That will stop the white text on the white backgrund
ie
html, body {
color: #000000;
background-color: #ffffff;
}
If you want to add a border round your buttons, then simply add this to your colours.css
a.button1, input.button1, a.button2, input.button2 { border-color:#da0000 !Important; }
Change the border-color to suit whatever colour you want
Another thing that might be causing you an issue is in your template html file. In the top right hand user drop down you have the following html :-
<span class="username-coloured" style="color: #000000;">tacnet</span>
That means that link will ALWAYS be black, regardless of your colours.css. Simply take out the style="color: #000000;" to fix
ie
<span class="username-coloured" >tacnet</span>
hope that helps

The red was a problem, I thinks everything about the black theme is good now, I had to go with blue instead of red so there were no css conflicts.
