China considering lethal aid to Russia

#1

Post by tacnet » February 26th, 2023, 4:33 pm

CNN is reporting that China is considering sending lethal aid to Russia https://edition.cnn.com/videos/world/20 ... ff-vpx.cnn

This will be a real game changer if they do. I cant see how Ukraine could stand up to 1000s of Russians armed with the latest Chinese weapons and China would be a LOT harder to sanction than Russia (eg every Iphone in the world is made in China)

On the flip side the West simply cannot afford to let Ukraine fall. Not after all those US and European leaders have stated they will support Ukraine "for as long as it takes"

Seems we are only a few steps away from war

Very worrying

So many points to make about this situation. I'll try not make it long winded.

The longer it drags out the higher the risks for intentional and unintentional actions or miscalculations on either side. Neither side can afford to lose this conflict and the whole of the west has thrown their support, money and weapons into the Ukrainian side and I understand why. There is going to be a diplomatic solution one day, hopefully before more people die. There are no winners in war but innocent people dying.

What the west did is push China and Russia closer together, that was really stupid. During the cold (war love him or hate him) president Nixon realized that keeping the two away from each other was the right way to prevent having to deal with two adversaries. Before this latest conflict broke out last February Russia and China were getting closer together thanks to all the sanctions being put on them, they announced something to the effect that their co-operation has no limits, or words to that effect.

You know divide and conquer, the west has done the opposite. The enemy of enemy is my friend.....don't forget Russia and China are not buddy buddy but now they see the west being the bigger threat to them they have come closer.

China realizes if Russia loses out in this war they are not going to be able to rely on Russia when Taiwan war starts, that is going to happen in the next 10 years for sure. So China will do anything to support Russia at this point. The funny thing is we keep adding more sanctions without realizing these sanctions are just pushing the 2 closer everyday.

One more thing the world economy especially Europe is suffering from all this, what we don't need after 2 plus years of Covid.

I think I said this in another thread, don't corner Russia ( just like any other nuclear power ) where they have nothing to lose by going all out. That is when shit will hit the fan big time, try back channel contacts and try work out a deal. In the end which ever side wins if there is a winner there has to be a negotiated settlement.

I have no dog in this fight, I just feel sorry for all the people suffering and dying. We don't need WW3 and we are hurtling towards it.

Peace

We'll all suffer, remember during Covid where there was a disruption in supply chains, there was rationing for toilet paper, bottled water and alcohol just to name 3. The world economy is too intertwined to just cut out any major supply chain, especially China. You''ll go to the store and the shelves will be empty and what there is will cost so much no one will be able to afford it.

Exactly. If we stopped China's imports then you wouldn't be able to buy a mobile phone (or any other consumer electricals) for love nor money

Butcher - I hear what your saying in your previous post but Im not sure that China and Russia wouldn't have got together anyway by now. After all, they are the world's two biggest autocrasies.

Back in Nixon's time, Russia was the dominant player and China wasn't even a superpower so it made sense to court China to be against the Russians. Nowdays China is the dominant player and there a few autocrasies left in the world so the only way they can hold onto power is through fear and demonizing the west

I think there are two possible outcomes here. If China steps in to support Russia then I fear this war will spread as eventually Nato would have to put soldiers into Ukraine. If China doesnt support Russia then Russia will loose and Putin will be overthrown

As you say, there are no winners in war so hopefully there will be a 3rd option but I really cant see it at the moment.

I do not see why we have to put boots on the ground they are not a NATO member, we are already sending them billions of dollars worth of kit and support, let's not go all in with a direct face to face war. It will not end well, I can not see Russia beating NATO by any stretch of the imagination, so they will be cornered and go nuclear. I really think putting boots on the ground will lead to the end of the world in no time.

The only reason I think Nato might eventually have to put boots on the ground is that I dont think Ukraine could stand up to Russia if they were all armed with the latest Chinese weaponry

At the moment Ukraine has the technical edge so they are able to push Russia back but Russia has FAR more soldiers it can call upon. (Putin could conscript millions of soldiers if he had to).

If China steps in then the situation would be reversed. Russia would have the manpower AND the leading edge weaponry to swamp Ukraine and simply wipe them out.

If Ukraine was about to fall then the west would have only 2 options. Either give in (which would mean the end of Nato, Democracy and probably a war in Taiwan) or to put forces into Ukraine to drive the Russians back

I agree nobody wants to see this but it all depends on what China does next. We might be the ones who are being backed into a corner here

Agreed. Feels like we are just a few steps away from all out war

I dont think it would be a nuclear war though. If Putin even attempted to go nuclear then I think his generals would likely overthow him. They would know that going nuclear against Nato would mean the end of Russia. And not even China would not want to support him if he did that
