"At the moment in France, people only have to click a button to confirm they are older than 18.
But within months users will have to download a government phone application that will give them a digital certificate and code.
To access explicit material, the code will need to be entered, Le Parisien reports."
"f websites do not comply with the age verification protocol, they could be banned.
It comes as the UK eyes up a potential move to age verification as Tory MPs demand tougher checks on those accessing porn."

So the French are trying to do their own version of COPA that did not pass here 25 years ago. Good luck with that see how people react.

Here we go again LOL
These politicians never learn. What are the going to do ??? Ban all the porn sites from the rest of the world that dont comply with their new laws (and quite frankly dont give a damn about the few percent of signups they get from France) ???
They'll be voted out of office in a heart beat

You know what I do not understand, the government is not the one to raise your kids, it is for the parents to do right for their children. You don't say hey 3 year old go to the store buy me a candy, do we need a law to stop parents sending their 3 year olds alone to stores?
Plus there are enough ways to manage access to adult content that any responsible parent will utilize one or other.

Good point, with more and more people using VPNs these days, it makes the whole thing pretty pointless. You cant lookup the country of origin if they are on a VPN
Both China and Russia have been trying to block sales of VPN software because more and more users are simply bypassing the government's firewall. And of course, once a user HAS VPN software there is no way for the government to telll that they've got it because everything is encrypted.
Its like trying to hold back a river with your hands
Like the Butcher says, the ONLY way to protect kids from porn is via the parental controls.

Setting up and running a VPN is fairly simple. If you do a websearch you'll find step by step instructions on how to set up your own VPN. I came across it a few years ago when I was searching for various server related things.wetnwild wrote: ↑February 13th, 2023, 1:52 pm
How hard is it to start a vpn service and charge users?
Now if you want to charge for vpn service, things will get a little more complicated and expensive. You'll need to get the infrastructure in place to handle the traffic at a decent speed.

Was thinking of making it a service for a fee since vpn's are becoming so popular,do you have an estimate of how much initially I would need to start one up.HeidiHoe wrote: ↑February 13th, 2023, 10:41 pmSetting up and running a VPN is fairly simple. I haven't got the foggiest clue. Do a search and see what you turn up. It might point you in the direction on where to dig for the info.wetnwild wrote: ↑February 14th, 2023, 2:48 pmWas thinking of making it a service for a fee since vpn's are becoming so popular,do you have an estimate of how much initially I would need to start one up.HeidiHoe wrote: ↑February 13th, 2023, 10:41 pmSetting up and running a VPN is fairly simple.
