meta refresh a page and seo

#1

Post by Wade » January 26th, 2023, 5:25 pm

If I add a meta refresh page as my index and have it redirect to another site after 10 seconds will this work for search engines, where they index the domain it is on?

It has been done millions of times and Google has become aware of it.

Never a good idea to re-direct the page without the user clicking. Nothing to stop you scrolling the page though.

For example, if you had your sponsors banners at the bottom of the page out of view, you can scroll them into view once the user clicks to open your site on a new page :-

Code: Select all

<a href="/page2.htm" target="_blank" onclick="scrollToBottom()">Enter My Website</a>

<script>
function scrollToBottom()
{
    var height = document.body.scrollHeight;
    window.scroll(0 , height);
}
</script>
Hope thats useful

Most browsers and ad blockers prevent meta-refresh for happening now. A click is required just as in pop under pages loading.

Why do it just redirect the 1st domain to the other one without a delay
