When looking at improving the site for more search traffic how important is your Alexa score, will working on getting a higher score help your seo?

If you read my previous replies on Alexa you will know I think as much of it as my mother-in-law. I think it is a total waste of time, some here my disagree, my opinion has not changed in the past 15 years. I am blocking their spiders on this site.

The thing you have to bear in mind with Alexa is that it is a RANKING system (ie it compares your traffic to other sites) and like any ranking system, it has whats called the "Long Tail" effect





So the lower your rank, the less accurate it is. It only takes a small change in the number of visitors to make your rank jump up or down massively

But the higher up your rank, then the more accurate it becomes because it takes a much larger change in the number of visitors to affect your ranking

Your ranking doesnt count every hit, it was never meant to. Its simply an indication of how well your site is doing compared to others

Your Alexa ranking wont affect your SEO directly but to get a high ranking site then you need good SEO

Exactly. I think this is where people get confused because its NOT a hit counter and was never meant to be. But a high traffic site WILL have a high ranking and vice versa so its a good indication of how well a site is doing

When looking to trade links I check it but that's about all I use it for, not seo.
