[BUSINESS] duplicate posts on blogs (duplicate content)
If you quote a post or article in a blog post is that considered "Duplicate content" by Google?

Why would it be duplicate content? Duplicate means the same. If you quote a post or article you are creating a post that has content. The quote is part of that content but not the entire content. So how would this be a duplicate?misterporn wrote: ↑August 30th, 2021, 8:21 amIf you quote a post or article in a blog post is that considered "Duplicate content" by Google?

The answer is NO!misterporn wrote: ↑August 30th, 2021, 8:21 amIf you quote a post or article in a blog post is that considered "Duplicate content" by Google?
Duplicate content by Google was create initially and mainly to deal with multiple copies of sites.
the different copies of sites that are created when you do not have all these redirecting properly
www
non-www
http
https
etc.
Now the bloggers and Noob SEOrs have made so many posts about the wrong definition of duplicate content (confirmation bias) that most people would research and think that copying some other site word for word is considered duplicate content. It is not.
You can google a long phrase and find identical articles all over the web.
The first place to post the article has authority for the content. Maybe the first that Google finds has more authority, not sure on that yet.
Then as others copy, their sites authority can surpass the authority of the actual author.
The Duplicate Content

If you read this, you will read that Google precisely shares the exact same (not exact) example as I did above.
However, Google has greatly expanded their explanation of the Duplicate copy and how to use it properly.
There are some steps you can take to proactively address duplicate content issues, and ensure that visitors see the content you want them to.
Another key term to comprehend is canonicalization! Using canonicalization properly will resolve many internal duplicate content issues.
Block crawling of parameterized duplicate content

Duplicate Content is fairly straight forward, after you have read the support pages on Google and not some ass hats blog.
So @misterporn
not duplicate content.
Syndicate carefully: If you syndicate your content on other sites, Google will always show the version we think is most appropriate for users in each given search, which may or may not be the version you'd prefer. However, it is helpful to ensure that each site on which your content is syndicated includes a link back to your original article. You can also ask those who use your syndicated material to use the noindex tag to prevent search engines from indexing their version of the content.

Cite your sources correctly and you'll be fine. It helps with SEO, too, because SEs will see it as non-plagiarized.
Duplicate pages/canonicals/etc is something else.

I see no problem in quoting a piece of post, I never quote the whole thing for copyright issues.
