subdomain v directory

So looking around here a few like subdomains and others like directories. I'm leaning towards subdomains right now. My concern is, when I move hosting directories seem a no extra effort. How much work would it entail to ad new subdomians to the new server, or if they copy it all over there is no extra work for me to do.

You will get 2 opposite answers here. There are 2 camps one loves the sub-domain concept the other the directory route. So be prepared for the replies.

When starting out I had no idea how to set up sub-domains and found CPanel too much, so I started adding directories and it became a habit now.
