How can I stop all these bots registering on my blogs all of a sudden, I know they are fake users, it started just after Christmas, some of my sites are getting 40-50 fakes registering a day.

Help.

Install simple Google reCaptcha, it works great and it's a free plugin

You have a couple options with it, I go the easy route, "I'm not a robot"

You can also create a hidden field in the form, name it something like "email" or some other default name, name the real field something else, then if a bot auto-completes it with something in that hidden field, throw it out and block the IP.

Recaptcha works, too.

I've had the same problem Alex, both on wordpress forms and even on an old phpbb forum.

The recapture works and on the forum, I make people email me. Sucks but keeps the bots off the forum.

I run a nice little group of sites. www.SpeedoFetish.com (main pay site), www.AussieSpeedoGuy.org (members blog site), GayMoviesPage.com (non-monetized tube site) and www.BisexualDave.com (members blog site).

Been in the industry since 2001 so something must be working since the bills are paid.

I use recaptcha and there are still spam registrations on 2 of my blogs, no clue why just those 2 sites. They are mainly from .xyz and mail.ru domains

Make sure you have activated it and the keys are in place.

Look up "setting up a form honeypot"
There are still ways for bots to get around this, but will still at least cut spam out by 50-60%

Recaptcha is the best way to reduce spam registrations and comments on posts.
