I understand they keep changing the pretend rules.

May I suggest using Yoast SEO plugin for windows and reading a lot of their documentation.
This tool is just that a tool and a guide. Don't fret if you do not get green.

If you already use this plugin and need a bit of guidance from someone that has read the instructions and purchased several of the yoast guides and books and then read them, just let me know.

Unlike many SEO Experts on this site, I am not an expert as there is no such thing as an SEO expert. I am an SEO professional.

As an example.
there is a field for the keyword in Yoast.
I use this field for what I might think is the most important word for the post and put that word in the field.
then I optimize the post for that word with the suggestions of yoast. sometimes I work to get the green.
then I change the field to the second most important word. then optimize the post for that word without changing what I just did for the previous word. I will NOT get green, so orange is okay.
I do this for maybe two or three more words until I can not get orange any more.
Sometimes I change the main word into a phrase and start all over again.

then I submit to and then watch my search console and see how google responses to my changes.
