[BUSINESS] do font colors matter in seo
Do font colors matter in seo?
Does google care more about certain colors than others when indexing sites?

For those of you not old enough to remember. Back in the beginning before the Ark, colors where used to hide text on the page.. This blackhat SEO strategy was very successful for adding text to the page over and over again and hiding it from the user, but NOT the bots.
I used this method very successfully. Instead of using breaks and paragraphs, I just added more text that same color as the background until the visible paragraph structure was what I wanted.
When you highlight or hit ctrl+a all the text is visible. This is how the bots would see the text on the page, thus giving you much better keyword density.
Soon after that, these bots took notice of this strategy and began to check for text the same color as the background and then ignoring this text. Some people said there was even a negative impact or punishment for this practice. I do not believe their was a punishment. The negative impact was only that the bonus for the text (invisible text) was removed, since these words were then ignored.
True punishment did not begin until manual actions were implemented. IMHO
Now, these bots check your HTML, javascript, etc to determine what text is visible. From this your ranking is calculated.
Some of you may have read that using tabbed content can be bad for your SEO.
In a test I once read about, a page was created with dog content on the visible tab and cat content on the hidden tab. The page ranked will for dog and almost not at all for cat. When the tabs were reversed the page started ranking for cat and slowly declined for dog.
Some believe that the higher the contrast between your text and your background does affect your ranking.
I don't run scientific tests. However, I know that when I take over a new website one of the first things I do is increase the contrast between the text and the background (when possible) among many other adjustments. I always see an improvement in page rank after I make my series of changes to a site. Period. As I said I do not do scientific test. None of my clients want to wait around to test this and that. They want me to hit the ball out of the park and get to swinging. Not sit around @#$%ing with colors.
Does color affect your SEO?
Yes it does.

Yep. I remember these days. That practice came to an end at least 15 years ago maybe longer. Besides the SE's, surfers probably appreciate the contrast as well. Makes it easier to read. Only place where my print is usually more subdued is in the footer but I make damn sure there's enough contrast for the crawling critters.

^^Green is good as an "action" color, blue is good for logos when you want the company to seem "trusting", avoid red unless it's needed, orange works well for me in some cases with links, etc. Do research on action colors for marketing in general and you'll get good info. Some of those are things that Google bots will have no idea, too.
