how is this possible. My overall traffic is up 11% since the first of the year on my one site but my Alexa rank has gone from 760K to 1,600,000 rounded up. Even my sales are slightly up.

Alexa uses their patented guessometer to construct their stats..
They have never even been close gauging any of my sites traffic.
Without their script on your site, how do they really know? They don't. The just make up numbers using their algorithm.

Last time I used Alexa they gave me a code like the Google Analytics code. I assume they still do this. When I used it the visitor numbers were less than Analytics, which are less than my server stats. FYI, server stats are the best stats.
That code, the tool bar (who the #$%^ uses tool bars?) and then they have an algorithm that guess at your traffic by the number of incoming links based on the possible traffic from the linking site, etc, etc.
They used to have a huge section on their site explaining all this.
I just call it their guessometer.

You need to understand that your ranking is determined by other sites ranking, not YOUR traffic.
Another site starts trending and receives more traffic than you, well, by the laws of NUMBERS your ranking must decrease.

Every site on the Internet is your competition for your Alexa ranking.

I used to look at category rankings on Alexa, but now they charge for that access.
