htm or html both work if you only have the one in the root, not both

I mostly use php. I prefer htm over html, it's less typing. Who still uses shtml? Isn't SSI a thing of the past since most people use php nowadays?

Back in the day htm is what was output by Frontpage. Other than that it was mostly html. I don't know if Frontpage started the htm trend but that's when I first became aware of it.

You remember the times when we used Frontpage98, I loved it over other editors back then.

Frontpage was what I used when I first got online. A tedious pain in the butt. It dirtied up the code when you did edits, wouldn't upload .htaccess files, took forever to update the server when you connected with it.... Shall I go on? LOL. Frontpage gave me incentive to learn how to hand code and it didn't take long until my favorite editor was a plain old notepad.

The only real difference between htm and html is that there are actually some servers that don't allow more than 3 characters for an extension and need .htm . That's about it..

How do they handle pages with html?

Not sure, I'd guess you'll get an error when trying to upload?
