Europe bought $209 billion Russian energy between March 2022 and July 2026
Europe bought $209 billion Russian energy between March 2022 and July 2026, the Russians claim $320.7 billion, aren't they sanctioning Russia. Is this hypocrisy at its highest level or what?
And they are complaining about trump making a deal for a small amount of Russian diesel to supply our farmers and rancher.
" The European Commission pushed back against what appear to be inflated claims by Russia — and the United States — regarding the bloc’s spending on Russian energy since 2022.
The European Commission disputed Russia's claim on Tuesday that the EU spent $320.7 billion (€286 billion) on energy from Moscow since 2022, citing a significantly lower figure, according to a Commission spokesperson.
Contrary to Moscow's claims, Russia supplied the EU with €197 billion ($209 billion) worth of energy between March 2022 and July 2026, the Commission spokesperson said, citing COMEXT data, the official reference database managed by Eurostat.
Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said late Monday that the EU had purchased €302 billion ($320.7 billion) worth of Russian energy resources since 2022, highlighting the bloc’s continued reliance on Moscow despite Brussels’ efforts to sever energy ties, even as the EU faces gas shortages this winter.
But Brussels rejects those claims, stressing that the bloc's efforts to ditch Russian energy have already borne fruit. "

You have to keep two things in mind, one every country needs energy and second what politicians and bureaucrats say in public and what happens behind closed doors is not always the same thing.

Gas prices across Europe are high where it is hurting the cost of all goods at the shelves in grocery stores.

More gas = less price to pay
Sounds like a good plan to me.

This is just more of Trump's bullshit
The EU was getting nearly 50% of its gas and a 30% of its oil from Russia at the start of this war. Unlike the USA (the world's biggest oil producer), we were fully dependent on Russia. But now EU gas imports from Russia have been slashed to around 12% (most of that going to Hungary, Slovakia and Greece) and oil imports are down to just 2%. That's a HUGE drop !
We've also banned any new short term gas and LNG contracts with Russia in Spring 2026 with a full ban on ALL contracts slated for January 2027. All remaining supplies of Russian energy are due to be phased out by Sept 2027
Trump is simply trying to justify tearing up the Lindsey Graham Act (which was passed by congress and he himself signed into law) just so he can say he is doing something to address the affordability crisis when everybody knows that this is just pure political bullshit that's not going to have ANY effect on the cost of living

He's not tearing it up, the ACT as I heard of gives the president the power to implement sanctions when and if he chooses.tacnet wrote: ↑October 17th, 2026, 10:42 pmThis is just more of Trump's bullshit

That's partially true. The second part of the Act allowed Trump to impose tariffs of up to 100% on the 5 biggest importers of Russian oil...if he so chooses. But the first part of the act imposed tariffs of up to 500% on all US imports from Russia which Trump signed into law 3 weeks ago but is now clearly ignoringAlexO wrote: ↑October 18th, 2026, 12:20 pmHe's not tearing it up, the ACT as I heard of gives the president the power to implement sanctions when and if he chooses.tacnet wrote: ↑October 17th, 2026, 10:42 pmThis is just more of Trump's bullshit

The whole point of the Act (which passed the house and the senate with overwhelming bipartisan support) was to put pressure on Russia to STOP THIS WAR. Most Americans don't want to see American dollars being used to fuel Putin's war. Remember, there is also now irrefutable evidence that Russia is supporting Iran and vice versa. Some of this money could easily end up providing Iran with the means to kill more American soldiers
