An hour before Christa Gail Pike execution in Tennessee it was stopped for now
I have never agreed with executing people, I understand some crimes especially murders are horrendous, but no one should have the right to take away the life of another, give them a life sentence without parole, that is justice served in my opinion. In this particular case the underlying circumstances being mention whether true or not should be taken into account and considered.
End of my thoughts on the death penalty.
"Nashville, TennesseeAP —
Tennessee’s execution of Christa Gail Pike for a murder she committed at age 18 was halted Wednesday about an hour before it was set to begin, as a federal appeals court sought to review whether her allegations of childhood sexual abuse and rape were fully considered at her sentencing.
This would have been the state’s first execution of a woman in at least 200 years.
Pike, now 50, and her boyfriend were convicted of stabbing and beating 19-year-old Colleen Slemmer, their classmate at a job training facility in Knoxville in 1995.
The case garnered widespread attention at the time in part because a pentagram that was carved on Slemmer’s body and other elements of the crime stoked fears of Satan worship during the “satanic panic” of the 1980s and 1990s.
It wasn’t immediately clear if Tennessee’s attorney general was appealing the decision, or how long the execution might be delayed. A phone message and email were left with a spokesperson for the attorney general’s office seeking comment.
Execution witnesses had already gathered at the Riverbend Maximum Security Institution in Nashville when the order came down at around 9 a.m. CDT. "

I think death row inmates can ask the president for a stay of execution.

What a sad situation. I just can not wrap my head around the idea of killing someone because you have some laws that justify it. Two wrongs do not make a right.
" After a flurry of eleventh-hour litigation, Christa Pike was strapped to a gurney Wednesday night, set to become the first woman executed in Tennessee in 200 years.
But after being injected with two doses of pentobarbital, Pike was still alive, snoring loudly as journalists selected to witness the execution glanced at one another, wondering what was happening.
“None of it was normal,” said Catherine Sweeney, a reporter for WPLN. “I covered all the executions last year, and most of the ones this year. We haven’t seen anything like it. It went really poorly.”
Tennessee’s failure to put Pike to death is the latest blunder by a state that has pushed ahead with executions after several years of troubles, including another failed execution attempt earlier this year. And it’s sure to become the next keystone of death penalty critics’ arguments as they call for a halt to executions, not just in Tennessee but in the 27 states that still practice the death penalty."

You do realize she did not die and is in critical condition.
" Christa Pike survived Tennessee’s attempt to execute her via lethal injection on Wednesday, but her medical and legal future remain remarkably unclear.
Pike is in critical condition and receiving life-saving medical care after being injected with two ostensibly fatal doses of pentobarbital, her attorneys said Thursday. They declined to offer further details on her health.
Pike, who was sentenced to death for the 1995 murder of 19-year-old Colleen Slemmer, was set to become the first woman executed in Tennessee in 200 years. Now, her legal case will be at a standstill.
Gov. Bill Lee, a Republican, announced he would call off the state’s last remaining execution this year while a third-party review takes place to “determine what exactly occurred” in Pike’s case, according to The Associated Press. CNN has reached out to the governor’s office for comment.
“The Governor has appropriately called for an investigation,” the office of Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti said in a statement. “We need to know what happened.” "

Cruel all I can say, first they try kill her that goes tits up and then they try save her life, what to get her back to a point where they can try kill her again, what a world we live in. There is something very wrong with humanity today. How about compassion, forgiveness, sympathy to others. She did something wrong punish her lock her up for life, don't do this clown world shit to her or to anyone else.

"Tennessee prison chief resigns after Christa Pike's failed execution
Correction Commissioner Frank Strada will step down this month, Gov. Bill Lee said. Pike remains unconscious on a ventilator, her lawyers say.

This story really bothers me how they first gave her hope for a review of her case, then got the clearance to go a head with the execution, then they botched it up, now she is on a ventilator.
Really makes me sad.

Totally agree. I think the big question is what are they going to do to her now ?? If they bring her back to life simply to execute her again then there will be all kinds of legal battles for things like cruel and unusual punishment, effective torture etc. Add to that the fact that she is a woman and has the world's sympathy right now then the political backlash would be hugeTheButcher wrote: ↑October 3rd, 2026, 3:24 pm"Tennessee prison chief resigns after Christa Pike's failed execution

She's still in a hospital on a ventlator and,
"But the failed attempt has left her relying on a ventilator as doctors try to get a massive dose of the barbiturate pentobarbital out of her system."
https://www.the-sun.com/news/17097486/c ... urple-arm/
So now they are trying to save her life to do what exactly, try another time to kill her, give her a break.

If they really want to kill her then why not simply switch off her ventilator ??? Prolonging her death like this is effectively torturing her

Maybe this is some mysterious way of her not dying in the death chamber because she was not guilty as convicted?

I can not believe after everything they put her through now that she is awake they still have her shackled to her bed.
i mean talk about no conscious or compassion. There is something very sad and sick about humanity in my opinion. President Trump do the right thing pardon or at the minimum commute her sentence she has been through hell and back on so many levels. If you are a Christian as you claim to be, forgiveness is part of your faith. Do the right thing.
"Convicted murderer Christa Pike is conscious and speaking while shackled to a hospital bed after her botched execution, according to her lawyers.
Pike, 50, had to be hooked up to a ventilator after the state of Tennessee failed to kill her through lethal injection on September 30.
But nearly a week later, the killer's attorneys said that she is reportedly 'conscious, speaking, and continues to receive critical medical care.'
'Despite the severe damage she endured to her arms, she is still handcuffed and shackled to the bed. Her recovery is medically unprecedented. Her prognosis remains unclear but, at a minimum, we expect a long recovery.'
Pike was injected by at least seven needles as medical staff attempted to give her two lethal doses of pentobarbital that left her arms 'swollen, burned, and blistered,' her attorneys previously revealed.
Her lawyers said they are grateful for the medical staff working on Pike, stating that they have 'treated Christa like a human and have provided exceptional care to her.'
This is the first update that Pike's status has improved since being rushed to a hospital from Debra K. Johnson Rehabilitation Center in Nashville last week.
On Friday, her attorneys said that doctors were working to remove the pentobarbital from her body. "

Was she restrained on her hospital bed all this time they were trying to save her life after the disaster they put her though, this sounds mean. Where did they think was she going to go in that condition?
