If you buy a site what is the scoop with the design and content
Someone mentioned a design is done for the person who pays for it, if you buy a site do you need the designer to transfer the rights to his work to you. Secondly with content, if you buy a site and get the 2257 releases form the seller do you own the content now. I'm about to spend $3700 on this site purchase and want to know my rights and responsibilities.
Thanks for your feed back.

You need to get all this confirmed in a contract of sale. You could just be buying the domain name ?
If there's content, then they need to supply you with all the relevant documentation (model releases etc) and you need to make sure that the documentation can be transferred to you. You may find that the model releases refer to him (or his company) rather than the domain your buying
Hope that helps

A contract where everything is spelled out and use escrow.com for that purchase.

It puzzles me why the designer owns the design once he has been paid for his work

Check to see if he owns the domain and site. Give him a phrases to add to the site and check it for yourself then let him remove it.HarryXxX wrote: ↑June 24th, 2025, 11:58 amSomeone mentioned a design is done for the person who pays for it, if you buy a site do you need the designer to transfer the rights to his work to you. What about contracts if the ownership changes hands do contracts signed by the previous owners still stay in force?
