So now the Russian authorities have given Navany's mother and ultimatum. Agree to have a secret funeral or he will be buried in the penal colony where he died https://www.theguardian.com/world/2024/ ... al-for-son

They are obviously scared that a public funeral would lead to mass protests against Putin

I think it will be interesting to see who backs down on this. I would think that if there's one person in Russia that Putin cannot touch right now it's Navalny's mother. She just lost her son and all of Russia knows it. I think if it got out that they wouldn't even let her have his body back so she could bury him then the Russian people would not like that one bit

Russian mums carry a lot of weight in Russia. Remember when the Kursk went down ??? The dead sailors mums were protesting like crazy and there was nothing Putin could do about it

Interesting to see what happens

Just as I thought, Putin HAS backed down and handed the body back to his mother https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2024/2/2 ... okesperson

Like all dictators, Putin is terrified of mass protest and he knows Navalny's mother is untouchable right now. He cant lock her up or bump her off because the Russian people simply wouldn't stand for it and you cant deny a 70 something year old woman the body of her dead son

Now lets see what happens with the funeral

I never liked mixed drinks :)

I like vodka shots chilled. Rat poison somehow doesn't sound too tasteful :)

When I used to drink I kept the vodka in the freezer, have you ever tried it really cold.

No she has NOT agreed to anything

In a stand off between Putin and Navalny's mother.....Putin is the one who backed down just like I thought he would LOL

Bumping Navalny off is one thing but you CANT bump off an old woman simply for wanting to bury her dead sons body. The Russian people would never stand for that and Putin knows it

I haven't followed the he said she said, I do know it is sad Navalny died at a young age. But you now the saying.

" There is more than one way to skin a cat "

If I was her I would bury her son, not make it into a big deal. You mess with the wrong people your life expectancy gets cut down fast. It's not about Putin or her I am talking in general. Never mess with the wrong guy is one thing I saw in the Sopranos :)

Good point but personally I think she might do the complete opposite.

Before he want back to Russia Navalny made the documentary "Navalny" and in it he was asked that should he be killed, what message would he like to leave to the world ??? He replied "The only thing necssary for the triumph of evil is for good people to do nothing. So dont do nothing"

I think the family will take that message to heart and want to carry on where he left off

Here's the clip where he says it

I guess we will see what happens next

Why was the body handed over to the mother when he has a wife, or did I miss something

I think it was handed over to "the family". Wife looking after kids and mum went up to the penal colony to collect it

Just guessing

Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny is dead
