Unless you know and plan to work on the seo of the site what is the point of adding one more piece of code to the pages.
Analytics is much more than just SEO, its your whole site metrics eg what people are clicking on, what path they take on your site, landing and exit pages, even your page loading speed etc etc

In my opinion you really cant run a site without it nowadays
I agree my point was if you are not going to use it to improve your seo why even bother

The point is also made for plugins, a new member here recently asked me to help her with her WP blog she had started and when I went into the plugins category she had added 17 plugins, I asked her what they were all for when she was only using 5, she said in case I need them and forget where to download them. Never upload any plugins or any scripts you do not use. That was my advice to her.

Totally agree.

I learnt that lesson the hard way. A few months back I noticed some of our javascript files had been hacked with a bit of code that was randomly re-directing Iphone traffic to another site. And not just on one server either. All our servers are part of a load balanced cluster so he was able to attack everything

I immediately changed them back but the next day they were all hacked again. Spent days trying to figure out how the fucker was getting in. Even setup a cron script to scan all our javascript files every hour looking for changes

It finally came down to one unused and out of date WP plugin !!!!

Thats a mistake I'll never make again

Look in Admin under the Property settings and you'll find Tracking Info with your tracking code
I got that far last night but what code and where on the site do you add it

Thanks
have you set up your site on there?
