Following the lead of China is not the smartest thing for democracies, they are after all an authoritarian state.
They are a good example for something. In fact China is a great example for many things.

Democracies suck for the most part. Historically they fail quickly. Just after the people start voting themselves money from the treasury. Can you say Pyramid scheme.

America is a republic (supposed to be a republic) Seems we are turning into an oligarchy.
