Yes - as many as you want really - Directadmin and others have the functionality to swap between them easily.

2 versions of PHP on the same server is a first for me. But I can see why you might need it. Thank you for the heads up.

It's best to use the latest version of PHP and update the scripts and if the scripts are not recently updated to the latest php then dump them, they could be a hackers dream.

You dont necessarily need to upgrade to be safe - half the web is running php5x ... and PHP tends to get security updates for ages after new updates are out and sundown is usually at least a year ... now theyve finally stopped supporting 5x alltogether - but still, the problem only arises when new vulnerabilities are found after the security support has finally ended. So yeah, its wise to go 7 - but its not like "panic, panic, 5.6 is an open door" - it isnt, it was well plugged and patched before the end.bestfreeporn wrote: ↑April 10th, 2020, 12:45 amIt's best to use the latest version of PHP and update the scripts and if the scripts are not recently updated to the latest php then dump them, they could be a hackers dream.
The main reason to change is the performance gains in PHP7x which are significant (because of Zend being finally replaced, smarter calls and other things)

Generally no, php7x works differently & scripts based on old versions will break & die if you try them without upgrading them (equally as some have tried, running php7 scripts on a php5 box will not work) - it depends on the specific script how "badly" it breaks, some wont run at all & some will just throw a few errors.
The reason the major scripts work anyway "out of the box" after an upgrade is that say Wordpress, Joomla, Drupal etc have the necessary fixes, db upgrades etc built in and will apply them when a new PHP version is detected (in very simplified words, dont kill me for inaccuracy
There are tools you can use to test if a script is compatible with php7 - like the one they use in this guide: https://linuxhostsupport.com/blog/how-t ... ith-php-7/ ...but....I´d argue that if youre savvy enough to figure out the nerd tools, you might as well just upgrade your scripts

My servers are both managed and my host asked me end of last year of I wanted to upgrade the PHP and I checked the scripts I run and said go for it.It wet smoothly. I guess they asked because they knew some people may have scripts that will not work on the latest iteration of PHP.

Not worried because I mainly use WP and my server is fully managed by the host, and so when the time comes for a PHP update my host does this for me, and my WP does auto-updates.

surely you can not link the WP blogs on the same domain to the new version of php and the older scripts on the same domain running the older version.
