I do not know enough to express an opinion right now, I am looking into this though to see how I can benefit form it and reduce the load on my server.

Its very helpful, depending on your site. For example there are a lot of scripts that pull videos from pornhub and embed them into your own site. When you do this it uses your servers processing power and memory to make it happen.
This is not a heavy task but due to the nature of wordpress which runs a lot of websites, this simple task can turn a bit heavy, which can then effect your users experience by slowing down your server or taking up memory.
You can create a script using LAMBDA that does this for you and simply dumps the data received from an adult sites API into your database. Because this does not use your server to process, your users experience is not effected.
There is a lot of reading material on LAMBDA, if you write python, javascript, or java then you have most likely already used anonymous functions such as LAMBDA.
Just a quick note, amazons AWS Lambda supports Python, Java, and Node.js

Is the security on these applications safe, or can people inject code into your site if they want.
