It's a random draw that FIFA do. The top two teams from each group and eight best third-place teams from the groups will progress to the knockout stages

How much do you think advertisers pay to be an official FIFA sponsor for the games?

A lot it's all about branding and keeping your brand in the public spotlight not about making a profit on the money they spend on the ads.

Interesting article on BBC Sports
https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/arti ... gpv7v4p9lo

"Falling prices, fluctuating availability and a lack of clarity. With one week to go until the 2026 World Cup kicks off, many questions remain unanswered about match tickets."

One thing I find at any event is they want to sell you snacks, drinks, even bottle water. I mean this "prohibit bottles to prevent risk and injury to players and attendees" sounds good but I don''t buy it.

I was at a concert last year with the dragon a very well know performer by the way, I won't mention the performer so as not to get sued, the place had a rule no drinks allowed, I drink a lot of water and each 500ml bottle of water cost me $7.35, that is daylight robbery. A 330ml plastic cup of regular domestic beer was $16.75.

"Fans heading to games at the World Cup will be banned from taking reusable water bottles into stadiums, a last-minute policy reversal that could add to concerns about heat at this summer’s tournament.

“FIFA made the decision to prohibit bottles to prevent risk and injury to players and attendees,” a spokesperson for the global soccer governing body told NBC News in a statement Thursday.

“Outside bottles are already prohibited at several of these venues for safety considerations, and FIFA is applying this consideration across its tournament stadiums,” the statement said.

The move comes as heat is expected to be a major issue during the tournament, which is being jointly hosted by the United States, Mexico and Canada. "

Okay FIFA has updated their bottle ban and I agree hard bottles might potentially be a safety risk but now stating

" Each spectator can bring with them one 20 ounce (560ml) soft, plastic disposable factory-sealed water bottle"

Is more than fair and reasonable.

Fifa says fans will be able to bring sealed disposable water bottles into World Cup stadiums following criticism over a decision to ban reusable bottles.

The governing body initially made a late policy change banning bottles - along with cups, jars and cans - because of safety concerns.

Fifa has now clarified the policy, saying it is only hard-sided reusable bottles that are banned.

"Each spectator can bring with them one 20 ounce (560ml) soft, plastic disposable factory-sealed water bottle into the stadium," said World Cup 2026 chief operating officer, Heimo Schirgi.

"What is not allowed are hard-sided resealable water containers, which could pose a safety and security risk.""
