So many sites miss this basic point.tacnet wrote: ↑March 23rd, 2026, 9:43 pmA lot of this will depend on your traffic source. SE traffic is obviously best but if you've got people popping or blind linking to your site then your bounce rate will be sky high
Also the landing page is key. I see a lot of sites throw everything at the front door (or worse still the join page) and hope it sticks. But if the user has clicked a link that says something like "Click Here for Big Boobs" and the page he gets to isn't showing him big boobs then he is likely to close it. That's why we have thousands of different landing pages so affiliates can target their traffic to maximize click thrus. It really makes a hell of a difference

Here's some of the tips Ive picked up over the years to maximize your page load speed which has a big impact on your bounce rate (especially in this industry). Hopefully some will find it useful
- 1. Always test your pages in https://pagespeed.web.dev/ and follow the advice they give.
- 2. Optimize your images so they load fast. Use .webp rather than .jpg as its half the size. Serve you images from a CDN if possible.
- 3. Minimize all your CSS, Javascript using something like https://www.minifier.org/
- 4. Include ALL the css to display the top half of your page (ie above the fold) within your HTML. That way, the browser doesn't have to pull in another file before it can start to draw the page
- 5. Use CSS Media Queries to ONLY pull in the css files relevant to the screen size. Don't waste time pulling in css that your not going to use
Code: Select all
eg <link rel="stylesheet" href="/css/mycssfile.css" media="screen and (min-width: 768px)" />
- 6. Use dns-prefetch or preconnect in your <head> tag to resolve 3rd party domain names that your page will be accessing. Dns-prefetch resolves the domain name to an IP address whereas preconnect actually makes the connection. This can shave another 500ms off your load speed but don't overdo it. More info at https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/doc ... s-prefetch
Code: Select all
eg <link rel="dns-prefetch" href="https://fonts.googleapis.com/" /> <link rel="preconnect" href="https://fonts.googleapis.com/" crossorigin />
Hope that helps

Keep in mind a landing page meant to funnel traffic to other links will be best with a higher than average bounce rate. A paysite you want it low so they stay on there and hope they register for a membership.

One fix for your bounce rate is make sure your site loads relatively fast, so many times I close a page out of frustration, they pack so many scripts on it the damn page takes a week to load.

Popunders and silly floating ads ruin it for me so I deleted all those things

Those pesky age verification, accept adult content and cookie disclaimer overlays must hurt bounce rates

I have a solution for that also.
If, say, the age verification script would be triggered, redirect to a page that does not require an age verification.
same with the cookie disclaimer, redirect to a page without cookies.
Then no disclaimers or pop ups interrupt the visitor.
If there is NO law to have these, why have them.
where there is a law. redirect those to a page that complies with those laws.
