I respectfully disagree my friend. You can have 1 thread or 20 threads by one person, if they are going to bump the one thread they will do the same 20 times flooding the chat with their threads, it will not make any difference but make the Mainchat more of a mess. Even when we had separate forums it has always been one thread for everyone, including advertisers. I staunchly believe you need to keep the board neat and not a mess, nothing has changed since day one. Another way to look is if they want to bother bump their one thread let them, so many do not bother to update or add to their offers, that is a shame.

The board is not neat. Do you keep everything in your living room or do you have places everything goes.
Do websites have everything on one page or categories?
Do stores have everything in one area or divided up by categories and niches?
Are cities separated into zones or can people do what they want anywhere?

You have one area that is not neat or user friendly.

What? That is no explanation.
That is the way navigation works.
If the front page had popular threads on it, more like a news site or blog would, then that would not be an issue either.

2 is fine better than it is
3 would be for sub thread, not that we need that.

Every single OTHER forum I participate in has a better navigation to what I want to read than this one.

Why do you think these other places have millions of users and visitors and posters and advertisers and fat bank accounts?

Just a few of the ones I visit, occasionally.
They show up in the search results and have answer to questions. Content to support the community. Rules/moderators to keep the trolls, spammers, and bumpers in place.

None of these sites have only threads on the front page. they all have great navigation to create a flow/funnel for their visitors.
The have statistics and market research to build and maintain their sites to make their site user friendly to their target market.

Second of all please don't post links to other forums, I deleted them, 20 years ago a couple of members here would quote posts from here on a couple of other forums and they got banned so I added in the FAQ back in 2004

What's good for other forums is good for this one.

Third there is no way I am going to split the Mainchat for the umpteenth time into separate forums, we have skinned that cat way too many time. One day a couple of people say merge the forums then they say split them. It would take days to go through all the threads separate them. I ain't going through that exercise again, even when there was a domains, hosting, designers forum it has always been one thread per person add to it.

People want to be thread with respect and not be told they violated this rule or that rule, the more rules you add the more you chase away people who would otherwise participate and post.

I tell people please keep the sigs to withing reason, they don't care so I just edited one. This has not changed in 20 years either

But you know what happens when you start moderating profiles, threads in the wrong forum, people get pissed at you and stay away. So I try not to mess with things that are not illegal. The rules are very few and very reasonable if you ask me. Let everyone post their mind, business gets done in more ways than just starting a thread to sell a domain or find an affiliate. Why people go to golf courses to schmooze and mingle and network.

and what happened to your traffic afterwards, you have no idea because you dont have analytics or anything except your feelings and personal observation as to what is happening on the site.

You can make the forum sigs NOT allow sigs bigger than the rules. easy fix.

I could if there was a directory of threads. Then I could find some domains, some affiliate programs, some hosting, some business ideas, some business education. something besides the drivel I see now.

I used to like coming here and posting, then ass hat trolls and drivel threads took over immediately after you down graded the site to ONE fn category.
You did not really notice how bad it became after you down graded to one main area. you certainly complained about it, but did not have analytics for me to back up my theory... which is almost always correct.
