The real money in pops was when they would load with a page in the background or front of the page. Not when someone clicked on the page.

What popunder script are you using

Forget popunders, use scrollunders instead. They are less intrusive and they don't get blocked by popup blockers

Basically you load your add at the bottom of the page, off screen. You can lazy load if you wish so it doesn't impact on your page speed. Then you open your links in a new window and use the onlcick="window.scrollTo(0,900)" to scroll the opening page to your add. That way, when the user closes the new window, he sees your add front and center with no popups
