Wagner mercenary group boss Yevgeny Prigozhin has reportedly said that his troops are turning back from their advance on Moscow to “avoid bloodshed”.
He probably secured more money for his company but this will be the end of him. Putin can not allow this clown to pull off another stunt like he did this one. He is a dead man walking in my humble opinion.
Your absolutely right but I do wonder whether Prigozhin is too high profile for Putin to touch right now ?? He's very popular in Russia at the moment and I reckon there would be a huge outcry if he suddenly dropped dead

Putin will get him in the end though. In a few years I'll bet he will accidentally wash his underpants in Novichoc nerve agent or whatever...... like they did with Nevalny

Been thinking about this 24 hours of drama over there, it ended too quickly. I have a couple of new ideas hear me out.

Was this all a false flag to get Wagner into Belarus so they can be closer to Kiev. Or another far fetched idea was Wagner offered money to turn on Putin and Putin came along said tell me what they offered you I'll pay you more stay on my side. He is a private contractor so he fights wars for money and money talks.
I know these are wild and crazy thoughts but 25K troops against what 700K+ had no chance and that prigozhin dude knows it.
My last thought and I am not a fan of Putin by any stretch of the imagination but from all I have read Prigozhn is way more dangerous and hawkish than Putin. I don't think he would make this war go away any sooner than Putin.

Just thinking out loud.

Interesting thoughts. I'd be VERY surprised if this was some kind of false flag operation. This has been hugely embarrassing for Putin on the world stage and to his people. He went on live TV and essentially passed a death sentence on Prigozhin and all his fighters. Then just a few hours later he has had to back down

Plus Prigozhin might be in Belarus but his forces are in eastern Russia. Im sure Nato have dozens of satellites and surveilance drones tracking where those forces are so there's not much chance of him sneaking them into Belarus

Your right though, Prigozhin is a nasty piece of work. He was the one who used poison gas in Syria and he currently has forces all over the world fighting on behalf of Putin. He seems to think he's untouchable. Just yesterday he publicly stated that "there was no threat from Ukraine or Nato prior to this war" and the "invasion had been carried out under false pretenses" !!

Other people have been jailed for saying far less

There are people in every country who want things to happen so they take matters in their own hands, but that is not how a democracy works. They should have not agreed to let this guy go but charged him with treason and locked him up,my 1 cent.

This is starting to make a bit more sense now or at least its becoming clearer what happened

As I understand it, Putin had enough of Prigozhin mouthing off over the last few months and had therefore insisted that the Wagner fighters sign a new contract with the Russian army by July 1st. The Wagner group itself would then be dispanded which would leave Prigozhin without an army and extremely vulnerable

It seems Prigozhin realised what was happening and that his life would be in danger if his soldiers signed the contract so decided to up the stakes by marching on Moscow. He did it because he was scared for his life.

Putin wasn't about to back down but he also saw that Prigozhin was too high profile to have him killed. He couldn't charge him with treason because the guy is a war hero

He therefore came up with the only other option which was to get Belarus to offer him safe haven. At least safe for now

I know it sounds like some twisted plot from a mafia film !!

This would NEVER happen in the west

I hope he stays away from door knobs, windows in high rise buildings, off bridges and watches what he eats and drinks. For Putin he is a liability and what better way for him to have an "accident" than outside the country.

Just throwing out a wild conspiracy theory :)

Too right. Having just seen Putin's statement its clear he wants Prigozhin's head. I doubt he's even safe in Belarus

If I was Prigozhin, I'd be dressed up in a wig, dark glasses and false boobs right about now. Change my name to Susan and get as far away from Russia as I could LOL

Allegedly but if he's got any sense he will get the hell out of Belarus. Far too easy for Putin to get his hands on him there

I would think a lot of his soldiers are having second thoughts too after hearing Putin's speech this evening threatening to bring them all to justice

Its a valid question and one that has been asked before but with respect, your missing the bigger picture here. This is "aid" and not a loan so NO, we do not expect Ukraine to be paying all this money back

So you may ask "why are we doing it then ?"

Firstly Ukraine is one of the world's biggest wheat and grain exporters. If Putin were to take it, he would control not only the world's supply of oil and gas but also our food supply. He could effectively hold the world to ransom. And why would he stop at Ukraine ? there are plenty of other non NATO countries on his borders. Hence why Finland and Sweden are now rushing to join NATO

Secondly this is about stopping Russia (and any other autocracy) from believing they can invade a weaker non NATO country and the west will look the other way. The obvious example of this is China and Taiwan. If China decided to invade Taiwan that would give them almost complete control over the world's supply of computer chips. China could simply click its fingers and bring the entire western world to a stand still

This is a fight between democracy and autocracy. A government should be accountable to its people and we simply can not allow a man like Putin to control the world. The consequences are too dire to imagine

Hold on here now this makes me confused. Putin said yesterday that the Russian government funded Wagner group 100%. So how is this a private military company.

Yeah I must admit, things are getting more and more confusing.

Monday Putin said that the "Leaders of this rebellion would be swiftly brought to justice" but now they are saying that they have been pardoned ???

All I can say is it really makes you appreciate the freedom of speech we have here in the west. We can protest against our governments, a war or anything we like without fear for our lives

You know I did not know that but now it makes more sense, call it a private military contractor, fund it do the fighting and in the mean time have some arms length deniability that hey this is not the official army doing it. When the puppet they had masquerading as being the owner and leader started to think he really called the shots and got out of line, wanted to get the top brass in the military fired, they clipped his wings. Threatened to throw him in jail for up to 20 years along with the people he took on his march to Moscow. Then give him the option to go into exile pardon the guys who went on this march. On top of this have the remaining loyal fighters sign a contract with the official military and take over the command an control.

This happens all the time, people who are put in so called positions of power to be the front man start believe in their bullshit and think they can turn on the real people in power who pull their strings.

It starts to all make sense in some weird kind of way. Adrian what do you think of this analysis is it too far fetched or has some credibility?

I think your exactly right. Russia has been using Wagner forces for years (in Africa, the middle east and other places around the world) and they are known to be extremely brutal. They used poison gas against civilians in Syria, slaughtered thousands in Africa and recently there was that video where they executed a guy in Ukraine..... with a sledge hammer !!

Putin loves to play the big scary ex KGB guy but he cant have the Russian army seen to be carrying out these atrocities. As you say, using a private military contractor gives him deniability

The question is where do we go from here ? Putin needs to silence Prigozhin one way or another but simply killing him might provoke a backlash as Prigozhin has a lot of support in Russia

I think the real crux came when Prigozhin stated that "there was no threat from Ukraine or Nato prior to this war and the invasion had been carried out under false pretenses". That goes against everything Putin has said and done and brings into question the entire conflict. But will anybody act on it .......

what is going on in Russia
