You don't even need custom post types. Make a child for an existing theme, add a home.php, maybe edit archive.php single.php and add page.php if necessary. Use custom fields which you can create by simply adding them in a post unless you want to get fancy and add meta boxes to your functions.php. Add or adjust any styling that you want. Done.

If you want the ability to change options, add an area and fields to the customizer. Since it's your theme and you know which setting you want, this isn't even necessary.

Hell, this damn near is getting me motivated to add a site review area to my existing blogs. I'm already using child themes as it is. Using CPT, archive-review.php with some masonry, single-review.php with screenshots, add sponsor sites via CVS import.

Hmm, maybe tomorrow... or next week... damn I'm getting lazy

Maddos theme is a very popular, the support sucks azzzzz and they have not kept on top of it and updated it.
