So much fr the oil industry lobby, they must be more proactive if they want to keep gas sales up.

As with every other new technology prices will come down with time, give it a chance.

So you are speaking about what? less than 1% of the students, 1% of the population?bill wrote: ↑November 13th, 2020, 12:22 pm
people / college students who have little vacation time, so they drive from A to B as fast as possible, often non-stop for 18-24 hrs, to maximize as much time as possible at B
ie, christmas vacations,
visiting dying relatives / family one last time
etc
less than a tenth of a percent of the people driving?????
Since I can afford a Tesla, I have performed a lot of research on electric vehicles.
Since I am a person that at one time drove upwards of 20 thousand miles a year, driving from my University location to my "family location", I can say that there is NO such thing as a NON-STOP 18-24 hour drive.
My drive was just over 1000 miles ONE direction. I have performed the drive in under ten hours, but I still had to stop. (BTW the real average is about 16 hours, Since I no longer drive like a fucking idiot!)
We now stop 3 or 4 times as much as we did in the past and sometimes spend the night at the half way. This is NORMAL driving, not extreme driving..
Comparing extreme driving to the current popular limits of known electric vehicles is pretty ubserd IMHO!
That part of this discussion has not be quashed. No such thing as a non stop 18 hour trip.
Depending on the charging point, an electric car can go from empty to full in anywhere from an hour to 31 hours. ( and this is older data, not 2012 electric car data. )
There are cars that can reach almost 800 miles scheduled for the market in the near future.
Also the laws on advertising vehicle performance are strictly enforced. This is why the gas mileage on vehicle is under estimated on price tags and data sheet. to decrease lawsuits for using mis information to sell vehicle.
I have NEVER bough a vehicle that did not out perform the miles per gallon estimates.
Then no one has stated that any one needs to stop for the FULL recharge every time.
How about drive till you need to P and recharge a little?
How about drive till you reach the fastest recharge station and fill it up there? I stop and the cheapest gas stations and fill up whether I need gas or not. Saved me thousands of dollars on my trips. (for you people that do not understand how I saved thousands in gas, I have driven hundreds of thousands of miles. So! the savings ads up over MANY trips! might only be ten or twenty dollars each trip. You might not believe how cheap gas can be in Oklahoma, Kansas and Nebraska and then how expensive it becomes once you enter rural mountain Colorado. That is where you get your savings when you do NOT fill up with in Limon Colorado, unless your dumb ass forgot to fill up before leaving Kansas!!)
I am not going into how long it takes YOU to gas up each time you stop and gas up... Maybe time yourself.
Consider then how long and how often you already stop to gas up, go P~, etc. Then consider how fast the technology is increasing!
Then consider how few people you are referring to.
Pretty much barely relevant and time will solve this, if it has not already.
Have you read about the wireless electric car?
This car completely negates this entire issue. The car charges as it drives through charging areas, where it uses zero of it own battery to operate.....
thanks for the great conversation!!
