Not to scare you on this early Saturday morning but........

"The San Andreas Fault, which stretches roughly 800 miles across California, hasn’t triggered a major quake in decades, and scientists are concerned the region is due for the next Big One.

Geologist and San Diego State University Professor Emeritus Patrick Abbott told KTLA that a recent study shows the San Andreas and San Jacinto faults are at critical stress levels.

“In the last 1,000 years there’s never been this much energy built up,” Abbott said.

As the pressure builds, the potential for a 7.0-magnitude earthquake or greater increases.

“The energy is being pushed or stored into rocks in Southern California and [the question is], how much can it store and when will it be released?” Abbott said."

Are we close to the BIG one thanks to the San Andreas fault?

"The San Andreas Fault and San Jacinto Fault Zone have reached their highest stress levels in 1,000 years, according to a study by researchers at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, leading scientists to wonder when California’s next “Big One” will occur.

The fault lines have reached “unprecedented levels,” according to the study, which was recently published in Journal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth. The study suggests that stress normally released in large earthquakes has continued to build as 160 years have passed since the last “major rupture.”

The study’s lead author, Liliane Burkhard, said the fault system is in a “critically loaded state.”

“Our results show that stress levels on multiple fault segments are now at or above the highest values seen in the past millennium and that the region may be capable of a large through-going rupture involving both fault systems,” Burkhard said. "

Have you seen how many large quakes have occurred this year across the world, it's only a matter of time.
