Supreme Court ruling on global TARIFFS, not good news for Trump

I'm sure this is not what Trump wanted to hear

https://www.cnn.com/2026/02/20/politics ... rt-tariffs

"The Supreme Court on Friday ruled that President Donald Trump violated federal law when he unilaterally imposed sweeping tariffs across the globe, a striking loss for the White House on an issue that has been central to the president’s foreign policy and economic agenda."

Haha I went to your article to read the full text and saw he just announced another 10% global tariff rate!

Doubling down on tariffs: President Donald Trump announced he will impose a 10% global tariff on top of the levies already in place after the Supreme Court ruled that his sweeping emergency tariffs are illegal.

• Sharp criticism of justices: Trump called those who ruled against his tariffs a “disgrace to our nation.” Justices Amy Coney Barrett and Neil Gorsuch joined with Chief Justice John Roberts and the three liberal justices in the 6-3 ruling.

• What happens next: Trump’s new levies can take effect for a maximum of 150 days, barring congressional approval for an extension. Meanwhile, the president signaled a protracted legal battle over whether his administration now has to pay companies billions of dollars in tariff refunds.

What is a deficit that everyone seems to treat as a dirty word or something bad. People in one country buy more from another country than the people of that country buys from them, it's called business. If you do not want the goods and services do not buy them. I do not understand how it is the other country's problem that you want to buy stuff from them.

Let me try it this way, I go to Costco and buy a $100 worth of goods, can I turn around say Costco is running a $100 deficit with me so I need to cry or complain. No one forced me to go spend $100 at Costco, do you get my point.

Totally agree. And when you add in services, the US has a massive trade SURPLUS with the rest of the world. Most rich countries follow the same path. They tend to let other poorer countries take over things like manufacturing and agriculture while they concentrate and high profit services

The very first article of the constitution declares that only congress has the power to implement tariffs and to declare war and yet, here we are with global tariffs all over the place and on the edge of a war with Iran but with absolutely no oversight from congress. They've not even had a debate

This is going to be an absolute mess. Every importer and consumer who has paid tariffs is going to be suing for their money back

What happens to the trade deals can the other countries re-negotiate after this SCOTUS ruling?
