Just as i have said Tiktok being forced to sell I will say it for Google Chrome, it is not right toi interfere and force businesses to sell a product they have built up.

Because lack of competition is NOT good for the consumer

About 20 years ago, Microsoft was in a similar position to google. Their free Windows operating system had made them a monopoly in the PC market (which meant nobody could compete) and they were going to be broken up. However, Microsoft cleverly avoided it by investing millions in their main competitor....Apple (who was then on the verge of bankruptcy). Had they not done so, Apple would have gone under and nobody would have ever heard of an IPhone or Ipad and Microsoft would have been forced to sell off its App business so your wouldn't have Word, Excel etc either

A monopoly can dictate its own market. They don't have to worry about updating their products. They can charge whatever they like and the consumer has no choice but to pay

It's possible that Google could follow Microsoft's lead and invest a few billion in one of their competitors. Probably NOT Apple as they already compete with them in the mobile phone market but an investment in say Firefox might be a way out.
