To understand cryptocurrency or 'Bitcoin' (BTC) from a beginners point of view, one would need to understand what blockchain technology is first.ezdoesitz wrote: ↑March 6th, 2023, 3:34 pmCan some of you smarter people here explain to me the 1,2,3's of Bitcoin. Keep in mind that there are many many types of cryptocurrency 'coins'. Also, keep in mind that Bitcoin (BTC) is a first generation coin. There are many other types of coins that work much differently than how BTC works. Bitcoin is a 'Proof of Work' (PoW) type of blockchain coin. Meaning, in order to verify the blockchain it has to go through complex processing to prove the validity of its' transactions, or, to keep it's ledger accurate. It requires high energy to process, or 'mine' the BTC blockchain.
Learn more about Bitcoin and blockchain tech here at a Blockchain Learning Portal. This is all I have to begin with for now. I have many other things to do atm. More later.

This does not mean I am endorsing Bitcoin (BTC) in any way. By registering with Coinbase you may claim $10 in Bitcoin to trade with as you please.
It is important to do your own research about any type of cryptocurrency. They all have unique qualities. Some are more efficient, such as Proof of Stake (PoS) blockchain open source software type tokens, or coins. Others are less efficient, such as Proof of Work (PoW) blockchain open source software types of tokens, or coins.
An original first generation example would be Bitcoin (BTC). Bitcoin is a first generation PoW blockchain coin. It does consume high energy to process ledger, or blocks. It 'works' with processing its ledger, or blocks, with high end video processing cards linked together with multiple computers.
An example of a 3rd generation type of Proof of Stake (PoS) token is Cardano (ADA). It validates its blockchain from 'staked' tokens. Staked tokens can also earn interest while they are being used to validate its blockchain, or ledger.
I highly recommend that you research both types of tokens (PoW) and (PoS). While there are even other types, the two mentioned are more widely known.
The above information is only a basic briefing of cryptocurrency.
