Well it looks like a peer to peer network so yes you would create a database on your system that others could then access in the background. In other words people would be using your resources just as you would be using theirsLeatherman wrote: ↑October 18th, 2022, 6:05 amDo you mean they access your computer or that others can access the computer?tacnet wrote: ↑October 17th, 2022, 8:03 pmCant say as Ive ever heard of Yacy but I guess if its a search engine bot then you want it to crawl your site
I noticed it says "The main purpose of YaCy is to aquire a lot of data from the web and make them searchable. Consequently, this uses a lot of disk space. ....... YaCy loves to use more RAM if available, give it more RAM and it performes better! "
Guess that means other people will be using your resources as its a peer to peer network.
To be honest, i doubt its any good. The problem with peer to peer networks is it requires users to A - have their systems on and B - to have the app running in the background. That's besides any potential security risks
I cant see the point of it. Your only ever going to be able to find what others have previously crawled.
Why not just use google which has already crawled everything ?
Just my 2 cents
